Homemade Natural Gel with Flax seed

Who knew you could make gel out of just water and seeds? I certainly didn’t.

Flax seeds, also known as linseeds are small, brown or golden-colored seeds that are rich in source of omega-3 fatty acids, that comes from a plant. Just so we know how rich these seeds are, let’s look at what we can find in them.

  • Omega-3
  • Fiber
  • Protein
  • Vitamin B1
  • Manganese
  • Magnesium
  • Phosphorus
  • Selenium
  • Vitamin B6
  • Iron
  • Potassium
  • Copper
  • Zinc

Now can you imagine all this richness in your hair gel? Heaven!

Knowing me, I had to try it out and see for myself how good it is before I shared the recipe with you guys. And let me tell you, it’s so worth it.

But before we get to the to that wonderful gel, I wanted to share another way to have healthy hair as well as skin. By adding 2 tablespoons of flax seeds your natural juice or smoothies and even a tablespoon of flax seed oil to your dishes.

The fats in flax seeds benefits the hair and skin by providing b-vitamins and essential fats which help reduce flakiness and dryness. Acne and eczema symptoms can also be improved. Another plus is that it can reduce dry eye syndrome.

Flax seed oil is another great option since it has an even higher concentration of healthy fats. You can take 1-2 tbsp internally to hydrate skin and hair.  It can also be mixed with essential oils and used as a natural skin moisturizer.

So back to our recipe. You will need:

  • Strainer or stocking sock
  • Wooden spoon
  • Bowl or air tight container
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/4 or 1/2 cup of flax seed (linseed) depending on how thick you want it

Optional:

  • 1 tblsp pf aloe vera gel
  • 3 drops of essential oil
  • Other oils

In a pot, pour the 2 cups of water and the cup of flax seeds, medium heat let it boil while you continuously stir the mix with a wooden  spoon. Stir until a white frothy liquid that looks like gel. Its consistency will be like that of a raw egg white. Keep stirring until the froth dissapears. Take the bowl and place the strainer or stocking sock on top of it and pour mixture in.

Let it cool down, add aloe gel and essential oil.

And voila!

You can use the gel when your hair is clean and damp. Since it is a natural recipe, it can only be used for so long. By storing the gel in a tight container and in the fridge, it can be stored and used in 12 to 14 days.

But of course I opt to know why I should use such products, what benefits they bring.

  • Soften, moisturize and leave hair shiny
  • Nourish the hair because of the omega 3
  • Promote hair growth
  • Gives curl definition
  • Dries fast and does not leave hair hard or crunchy
  • Does not leave hair dry
  • Does not cause breakage/shedding
  • Can be used for sleek hair styles
  • All natural
  • Mixes great with oils, conditioners
  • Can be used on all hair types
  • They can be reused, so money saving

Now that I have found this recipe, I am not letting it go.

Try it out and let me know what you think.
