Can you feel the summer knocking at our door? Actually it’s mostly summer in Mozambique and even in winter, we always have that one hot day during the week, so why not learn how to best deal with your natural hair when in summer.
I can’t believe it has taken me so long to talk about this!
We all know that summer involves lots of sun and heat. And of course, too much heat isn’t good for anything or anyone.
I’m sure you are interested in what you can and can’t do in summer in regards to your hair, so let’s get to it.
The Dos and Don’ts of Summer
Moisturize! Moisturize your hair as often as needed especially if you live in very hot climates. Carry a spray bottle if necessary.
Don’t skip conditioning! This helps de-frizz your hair during the humid season. Also, opt for deep conditioning at least once a week.
Prevent accumulation of sweat! Keep your hair in a loose hairstyle to help air out your locks.
Do not wash your hair too much! It removes the essential oils from your hair that moisturize it naturally. When you do wash, use gentle and nourishing brands with a high SPF.
Balanced diet and exercise regimen! Your hair is also a reflection of your lifestyle, a balanced diet and healthy exercise regimen will add a sheen to your hair.
Wet your hair before going in the pool! Who does not love swimming in summer? To lessen the chlorine absorbed by your hair, wet it before going in the pool.
Trim your tresses! This is the best time to trim because it is most likely for split ends to form in summer.
Control the dryness level in your hair! Mix avocado oil, aloe vera juice and water in a spray bottle and keep it handy for whenever you feel your hair is too dry.
Oil Rinse! It can be compared to a hot oil treatment that is done in the shower. Heat a vegetable oil that penetrates the hair (avocado, coconut or olive, maybe all three even), apply them from root to ends after you shampoo your hair and scalp. Remove excess water before applying oils. Condition your hair as per usual and it will be guaranteed to stay soft and moisturized but not greasy.
Use your leave-in! After being exposed to the heat and sun, replace moisture in your hair by applying a hydrating leave-in treatment that softens, promotes manageability and shine, while fighting frizz.
So there you go guys. Do not forget your treatments as well for they are extremely important. Do you already practice some of the tips? Which ones? Did you know you had to treat your hair differently in summer?
